it’s no secret that i am a die hard standard miami fan. i’m quite trusting of andré balazs- who isn’t down with the chateau marmont? the standard’s for the most part, etc. the man has a knack for creating spaces that generate good vibes, a lively scene, a better than average looking crowd. if big ass rooms with memory foam mattresses and five star service are your priority- surely you’ve still hung out at one of these properties for cocktails, good tunes, and a laugh. my latest conquest is sunset beach on shelter island- a friend noted that it is reminiscent of my beloved standard miami, maybe the more authentic sister. i have never summer stayed in or near the hamptons- i’ve always opted for muskoka a. for proximity, b. cause it’s so beautiful, c. cause it’s what i know. regardless, sunset beach looks worth a try paired with a glass of balazs’s rosé.
